Neighborhood

Alameda Island

Alameda was once part of one of the biggest coastal oak forests in the world, and was named in Spanish for “grove.”  The City of Alameda is now a city of homes, beaches and local businesses occupying three islands — Alameda Island, Bay Farm Island, and Coast Guard Island.

Living in Alameda

Alameda Island is flat, with 5.7 miles of coastline — perfect for walking, biking, kite surfing, or kayaking. Our picturesque shores include marinas, harbors, and views of San Francisco. Our Mediterranean climate has mild winters and dry summers averaging in the 70° zone.
